COL William Bimson is from Taylor, Mo., and received his commission through Truman State University ROTC Program in Kirksville, Missouri, in 1997. After receiving an educational delay, he completed his training in medicine, graduating in 2001. He then reported to Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., where he completed a three-year Internal Medicine Residency in 2004 and a three-year Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship in 2007.
After completing his graduate medical training, COL Bimson served in several hospitals including Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Dewitt Army Community Hospital, Fort Belvoir Community Hospital, Moncrief Army Community Hospital, and Womack Army Medical Center. He has served at various levels of hospital leadership from clinic officer in charge to deputy commander for clinical services. He has also served in several operational medicine positions to include the 82nd Airborne Division Sustainment Brigade Surgeon, the 82nd Airborne Division Command Surgeon, the 44th Medical Brigade Chief of Clinops/Professional Services, and the XVIII Airborne Corps Command Surgeon. He commanded the 531st Hospital Center at Fort Campbell and most recently served as the U.S. Army Central (USARCENT) Command Surgeon.
COL Bimson’s combat deployments include Operation Iraqi freedom with the 4th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2D Infantry Division, Operation Enduring Freedom with 504th Battlefield Surveillance Brigade, and Operation Spartan Shield while commanding the 531st hospital center. He also deployed to the Javits Center in New York City, N.Y., with the 44th Medical Brigade in support of the federal COVID-19 response.
COL Bimson's awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star Medal, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (5 OLC), the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal (3 OLC), the U.S. Army Achievement Medal (1 OLC), the Armed Forces Service Medal, the Combat Medical Badge, the Parachutist Badge, the Air Assault Badge, and the Ranger Tab. He is also a member of the Order of Military Medical Merit (02M3).
COL Bimson holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Truman State University, a Master of Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College, and a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from A.T. Still University of Health Sciences-Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. COL Bimson is board certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease.
