FAQ's:

Q: How often can a person donate blood, platelets or Convalescent Plasma?
A: Blood – every 56 days / Platelets – every 14 days / Convalescent Plasma – (must be 28 days symptom free) every 14 days.
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Weigh at least 116 pounds or more
  • Be free of cold/flu symptoms for at least 3 days 
Q: Can I donate if I had COVID-19?
A: Yes, you will need to be symptom free for at least 28 days.
 
Q: Can I donate if I’ve received the COVID–19 vaccination?
A: Individuals who have received a COVID-19 vaccine are eligible to donate blood. All donors must be symptom free and feeling well at the time of donation.
 
Q: Can I donate if I traveled outside the US, Germany/Europe or to a Malaria Risk Country?
A: Travel restrictions have recently changed and may vary depending on location and travel duration. Please see attached Blood Donor Pre-Eligibility Sheet or call the Tripler Blood Donor       Center 808-433-6148 for more information.
 
Q: I’ve been deferred in the past for low hemoglobin (iron.) What can I do to improve my hemoglobin level?
A: It is normal for hemoglobin (Iron) levels to fluctuate. We encourage you to eat a nutritious well-balanced diet with foods rich in iron.
 
Q: Will I be deferred if I recently got a tattoo or body piercing?
A: Tattoos from most states only require a 7-day wait. Tattoos must be completely healed. Tattoos done overseas or the following states require a one year wait: Connecticut, District of             Columbia, Georgia, Idaho, Maryland, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, New York, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, Utah       & Wyoming. All body piercing you will need to wait 3 months before you can donate.
