Department of Family Medicine
Aloha E Komo Mai
Welcome to the premier Family Medicine Department and Residency Program in the United States Army. Since 1994, we have graduated over 100 family medicine physicians at Tripler Army Medical Center. The traditions of Army Medicine combined with warm Pacific trade winds and the majestic blue ocean provide the ideal setting for academic success. Our Department is committed to promoting a patient centered first philosophy, rooted in competent, compassionate and comprehensive evidence based clinical medicine. We strive to provide each healthcare member a challenging career in a tertiary health care environment.
Tripler Army Medical Center lies at the “Crossroad of the Pacific” and serves over 400,000 military beneficiaries and offers 15 graduate medical education programs. This historical "Pink Palace" continues to provide superb healthcare to all five military services, their beneficiaries and the Pacific Command, the largest major command in the Department of Defense. The Department is built around a thriving 3-year Family Medicine Residency Program that specifically balances clinical and academic medicine. The faculty is composed of both civilian and military providers who have been recognized nationally for their teaching, peer-reviewed articles, and contributions to military and family medicine. We also recognize the importance of operational medicine as an essential component in the training of Soldier physicians. Each year, the Department supports military medical civic action programs by sending the staff to Southeast Asia, Nepal and Mongolia.
During these missions, our staff are able to hone their tropical medicine knowledge and gain exposure to diverse third world cultures. Our unique geographic location provides ample opportunities for families to enjoy and explore the hidden treasures of Hawaii and the Pacific Basin. From beautiful rainbows, lush mountaintops, world-class beaches, and active volcanoes, one can experience paradise throughout the Hawaiian Islands.
