Head and Neck Cancer
The Head & Neck Surgery offers state of the art, comprehensive care for patients with either malignant or benign tumors of the head and neck. Our scope of practice includes surgical management and reconstructive surgery for tumors involving the:
- Oral cavity (tongue, palate, lips, floor of mouth)
- Pharynx (throat)
- Larynx (voice box)
- Trachea
- Sinus
- Skull base
- Non-melanoma skin cancers of the head, face, and neck
- Melanoma of the head, face, and neck
Our staff includes two surgeons with fellowship training in advanced surgical techniques, including laryngeal preservation surgery, transoral laser microsurgery, and microvascular reconstructive surgery.
The approach to care for head and neck cancer patients at Tripler is multidisciplinary and includes specialists in head and neck oncologic and microvascular reconstructive surgery, medical oncology, radiation oncology, neuroradiology, oral surgery, speech therapy and nutrition care. Outpatient care is coordinated by the service Clinic Care Manager, Ms. Suzanne LeClaire, M.S., R.N. Inpatient care is facilitated by a Critical Pathway for the care of head & neck surgery patients. A multidisciplinary Head & Neck Tumor Board meets biweekly to plan the management of all cases.
