Medical Social Workers play a critical role in the hospital, in outpatient clinics, and the Emergency Department by helping patients and families address the psychosocial impacts of illness, injury and treatment.

To provide individuals, families, and groups with the psychosocial support needed to cope with chronic, acute, or terminal illnesses.
Other Information
As part of the health care team, Medical Social Workers provide psychosocial assessment and interventions to assist patients and families to achieve optimum recovery, rehabilitation and quality of life. Services include: Brief solutions focused counseling, Advance Care Planning and Long Term Care planning, grief and bereavement counseling, resource navigation and coordination of referrals to other military or civilian, community-based resources. In August 2020, Dr. Baik completed this portion for BCI Division in general, under which Medical Social Work Service as a clinical entity serves.
