No impacts to patient care after E. coli found in well at Tripler Army Medical Center

By Amelia Dickson

Patient care at Tripler Army Medical Center remains unaffected following the detection of E. coli in a well on the TAMC installation.

The water sample with detected E. coli was taken at the well source before the water chlorination treatment station. Water samples taken after the chlorination treatment station within the distribution system have resulted in negative for E. coli tests. The well has been shut off until further testing confirms no E. coli presence. The hospital’s water arrives in the facility after the chlorination treatment station.

“Patient health and safety is always our top priority at Tripler Army Medical Center,” said U.S. Army Col. Michael Ronn, TAMC Commander. “We are confident that the water provided to patients and staff within our hospital is entirely safe for consumption and medical purposes. We will continue to provide the essential services that support our community.”

Additional information about the E. coli detection and impacts to the rest of the TAMC installation is provided by U.S. Army Garrison Hawaii at https://home.army.mil/hawaii/garrison/dpw/drinking-water or by calling 520-687-2207.

Tripler Army Medical Center, located in Honolulu, Hawaii, supports 264,000 active duty and retired military personnel, their families, and veteran beneficiaries. In addition, the referral population includes 171,000 military personnel, family members, veteran beneficiaries, residents of nine U.S. affiliated jurisdictions and forward-deployed forces in more than 40 countries throughout the Pacific.
