Tripler Army Medical Center — Please join us in congratulating Staff Sgt. Jesus Hernandez, Tripler Army Medical Center’s most recent Daisy Award recipient!

Congratulations to 1st Lt. Helen Aldridge, Tripler Army Medical Center's most recent Daisy Award recipient! Aldridge, a pediatric nurse, was nominated for the award by the mother of a patient who was diagnosed with cancer. She wrote that "Nurse Helen" showed an incredible amount of compassion to the patient and her family. Col. Rosemary Baugh, TAMC's chief nursing officer, presented the award on April 14. The nominator wrote the following: "Due to the nature of my daughter’s treatment, she was often confined to the pediatric unit, which can be difficult for a child to understand. Nurse Helen made it a point to ensure she felt as comfortable as possible during her stay. She would often remind my daughter about the different toys she could use to ride around the halls, offering small but meaningful distractions. As time passed, my daughter struggled to cope with the prolonged hospital stay. It was heartbreaking to witness her withdraw, not understanding why we were still there or how long we would remain. I knew this was a normal reaction for a child in her situation, but it didn’t make it any easier to watch. What stood out most was that Nurse Helen never gave up on her. She continued to encourage my daughter to leave her room and engage with her surroundings. Nurse Helen’s unwavering compassion and dedication is something we will never forget. Her kindness made a lasting impact on my daughter, who will always remember her as someone who brightened an incredibly difficult time."

Mass casualty exercise scheduled at Tripler Army Medical Center, Desmond T. Doss Health Clinic on April 8

HONOLULU, Hawaii — Personnel from Tripler Army Medical Center and the Desmond T. Doss Health Clinic will participate in a mass casualty exercise the morning of April 8.

How Tripler Army Medical Center is meeting the needs of today’s Combat Medic

Tripler Army Medical Center — Tripler Army Medical Center is leading the way in training combat medics, enhancing their skills and improving their ability to provide prolonged casualty care under field conditions.

U.S. Army Soldiers from TAMC and the Desmond T. Doss Health Clinic competed for the title of Best Leader during a four-day event, running Jan. 21-24 at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii. Events included an expert physical fitness assessment, a stress shoot, warrior task and battle drills, a ruck march, combat water survival training, land navigation, a 3.5 mile obstacle course run, and a mystery event.

National Pharmacy Week: Meet Sgt. Tristan Thompson

Tripler Army Medical Center — What do you do? I am the floor supervisor for the Inpatient Pharmacy and alternate vault technician. As a tech, my main functions include (but are not limited to) delivering medications to every ward and clinic in the hospital, compounding sterile IV medications for every ward in the hospital, filling every automated medication dispensing system in the hospital, and filling discharge medication after hours. We average about 1,000 unit dose medications and about 1,000 IV medications filled per day and manage 5,536 medications loaded in automated medication dispensing systems throughout the hospital. How long have you worked at TAMC? I moved from Fort Huachuca, Arizona to TAMC in March 2022. What do you enjoy about your job? I enjoy learning about medications, including their mechanism of action (how they work), what they are used for, adverse reactions, drug interactions, etc. Above all that, though, I greatly enjoy putting a smile on people’s faces and helping them out. Why did you become a pharmacy technician? I’ve always wanted to be in the Army as a medic. My older brother joined the Army a combat medic, and naturally, as the younger brother, I tried to one-up him by being a pharmacy tech. During the rehearsal for my high school graduation, I received a call from my recruiter about a pharmacy tech opening and sign my Army contract that same day.
